Air does the work.

Aerobic, with the drum turning so the bed breathes. Air does the work.

What actually happens

The machine does not blend your waste into a paste. It turns the bed slowly with an agitator and pushes air through it, so the microbes can breathe and work. That is aerobic composting, and the air is the point of it.

Aeration is one part of odour control. What smells in a closed bin is food breaking down without air. The same reaction at landfill scale is what makes methane. Keeping the chamber aerated helps the culture work without the conditions of a sealed, wet waste bin.

Filtration varies by model: a plain filter, a nano filter or liquid filtration. Ask for the specification sheet of the model you are quoted.

The larger machines add a step before this one. From HARDSTOCK up, bone and shell are crushed inside the chamber first. Hard waste finishes in the same cycle as the rest.

The line for the facilities meeting
It composts with air, not without it. Controlled aeration, appropriate loading and the fitted filtration system work together to manage odour.
Line drawing of two objects on one floor line. On the left a four-wheeled wheelie bin with its lid shut: the cutaway shows the waste inside slumped into a single dark compacted mass with no gaps, a stagnant haze trapped in the space beneath the closed lid with nowhere to go, and five flies circling outside near the lid seam. Nothing is alive in it. On the right the open composting chamber in cutaway: the bed is loose, its pieces individually drawn with clear gaps between them, dashed airflow arrows rise from below through the perforated floor, pass up through the bed and out of the open top into clear paper, and three Speedos sit up in the bed. No haze and no flies on this side.

What it means on your floor.

Airflow and filtration

Airflow supports the culture. The filtration fitted to your model helps manage the exhaust; correct loading and maintenance matter too.

The bin bay stops filling up

Treating waste during the shift can reduce the time it spends in closed bins. That is where the smell and the flies come from.

It is a process, not a disposal

The composter retains food solids for composting. Moisture leaves as vapour and condensate, as explained in step 06; the compost output follows in step 07.

Choosing and operating a composter

What the machine needs.

  • “Air, not blades” is about what breaks the waste down — not a claim that there are no moving parts. Every machine turns the bed with an agitator, and from HARDSTOCK upward there is heavy-duty crushing inside the chamber. The SEPARATOR machines are a cutting-blade design outright. Agitation and crushing are preparation. The decomposition itself is biological. A machine that only ground and dried your waste would give you a different product.
  • We do not sell LIGHT as “no grinder”. The small MW machines are built for soft waste. That is a fit question, not a feature. LIGHT takes soft food waste and small bones; larger bones and hard shells need HARDSTOCK's crushing chamber.
  • Noise is on the specification sheet. We publish a noise band for every model. Ask for the sheet for the model you are considering — and if the machine is going near a function room, ask early.
  • Air does not change the never list. The never list still applies. Non-food materials can contaminate the output or damage the equipment. Remove them before loading.
The sheet, per model

You know how odour is managed. Now find the model that fits.

Filtration, noise and installation requirements depend on the model. Compare LIGHT and HARDSTOCK, use the free weighing guide, or ask us for a specification sheet.
